In short, no single party achieved the magic 44 seats required to form a government of its own. National Conference won the greatest number of seats (28) in what will be a hung assembly. Click here for more detail on this story.

All aboard for Kargil!

Reported in the Tribune (online edition) the audacious plans to build a rail connection linking Leh with Himachal Pradesh (reported in August) are now being upstaged by a plan to link Kargil with the existing rail terminus in Kashmir.

Admittedly this project is very much in its preliminary stages. However, the proposal is yet another example of the attention and funding now being directed toward improving Ladakh’s infrastructure.

Karmapa begins tour in Ladakh and Chinese continue incursions along LAC

Reported by Phayul.com the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje arrived in Ladakh on the 9th September to begin his second tour of the region since escaping Tibet in 2000. Creating an interesting contrast of events his visit comes at a time when China continue to make incursions along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh, specifically in the Pangong Tso and Trig Heights areas. Kargil LAHDC elections


Independents dominate Kargil's 2nd LAHDC election with 17 seats, NC win six seats, two of which were unopposed, LUTF win two seats and Congress one. For more on this story click here.
